Student Activities

The extra-curricular program at Saint Ann School is designed to enhance and support the school's mission and philosophy. The school encourages each student to become involved and participate responsibly in this program. Competitive as well as cooperative opportunities are provided to meet the various needs and interests of the students. Participation in the extra-curricular program presents students with the means of developing their powers of leadership and heightening their awareness of the need to render service to others. Extra Curricular Activities include: choir, yearbook, newspaper, student council, service club, chess club, book club, student video broadcast, GeoBee, Model United Nations, TPAC and Children’s Theatre, Junior National Honor Society, Suntrails Leadership program, Quiz Bowl, music recitals, forensics, scouts, Spanish club, Literary and Arts Periodical club, photography club and many more. Among the organized activities currently offered in addition to athletics are:

The Forensics Program

The Forensics Program at St. Ann School was developed to provide students with the opportunity to participate in public speaking events as individuals, duets, and teams. They learn the skills necessary for these events and for use in their adult life. Our Forensics team is a member of the Nashville Diocesan Middle School League. St. Ann School is a charter member of the National Middle School Forensics Society. Team membership is available to any interested student in grades five through eight. The program consists of many different categories in drama and public speaking. Poetry, prose, storytelling, humorous and dramatic interpretation of literature, mime, duet acting, duo improvisation and audition monologue are the specific events. In addition to our weekly practices during Study Hall, children may participate in the league tournaments held throughout the year. These tournaments are wonderful learning arenas where the students meet teams from other schools and are exposed to many other students of differing experience levels. We believe that the Forensics Program enhances the confidence and self-esteem of the students who participate and encourages them to grow in ability and creativity. Every student who has participated has shown growth in speaking skills and academic responsibility. We feel that it is an important part of the arts progrum at St. Ann School.

Junior and Senior Book Clubs

The Saint Ann Junior and Senior Book Clubs meets during study hall in the library, with the librarian as facilitator. This club provides an opportunity for student members to read for fun, and to talk about their reading. Students share their thoughts on books (and life) in lively discussions, and the literary society evolves into a venue for making new friends.

Choir

The choir and liturgical band lead the Saint Ann community in song during our school wide liturgies and prayer services. They enhance the liturgical experience for our students by praising God through song in a contemporary style. Members sing in Afrikaner, Latin, Spanish, Hebrew. Chorus members also sing at the Grandpals Day, Christmas Program, Catholic Schools Week, International Festival, and other events both on and off campus.

Junior National Honor Society

Membership in the Junior National Honor Society is nationally recognized as one of the highest honors that can be given to a junior high school student. Students do not apply for membership; they are selected as members by a majority vote of the Faculty Council on the basis of Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. Throughout the year, the members participate in many service related activities.

Service Club

Service Club is an opportunity for students to be involved in service to others. Service is a key part of the mission of Saint Ann School and therefore is strongly emphasized in the classroom and through the Service Club. Though each class has a service partner they are involved with throughout the school year, students in the club have the opportunity to do more and different acts of service. Each class in grades 4 and up vote on 2 or 3 service club members who attend the monthly meetings and organize service activities for the school.

Student Council

The purpose of the Student Council is to promote school spirit, set example, and serve as liaison between students and different offices in the school. Two members from each class, grades 3 and up, are elected to attend these monthly meetings in the 5th grade classroom. They discuss student concerns and ways to improve the school, and the officers meet monthly with the principal.
